PROJECT Y-O-U

The most important project you’ll ever take on in life is PROJECT Y-O-U

There is nothing like working on yourself.

You are a continuous project. There is no finish line.

You are always evolving.

You are always leveling up.

And at the same time, you will have bouts of unworthiness, self-doubt, and not-enoughness swirling about in your head.

Your desires are ever-changing because you’re not the same person you were five years ago, five months ago, five days ago, or even five minutes ago.

It’s not a problem to let something go that isn’t working for you or something that you’re not completely stoked about

It’s okay to change your mind.

It’s okay to not want what you wanted five years ago.

It may not even make sense in your life for you to want what you wanted five years ago.

Right now, you may not know what you want for yourself.

You have fallen into a habit of deferring to others in your life to make decisions on your behalf.

This may have been a conscious decision, or maybe not.

It could also be a defense mechanism that has protected you from taking full responsibility for decisions made by others. You can attribute the lack of results to someone else having a bigger part in the decision-making process than you had.

You may also be at a point in your life where there are significant changes that affect your desires.

Your relationship with your partner is rocky. You have a new baby to care for. There’s a career change or retirement is on the horizon. You’re dealing with an illness or you’re the caretaker of a family member who has fallen ill.

These variables all play a role in how you make or don’t make decisions for yourself.

It’s also possible that you do know what you desire for yourself, but you haven’t figured out how to make that happen.

You’ve written down your goals for the millionth time, but they’ve never materialized.

You write your goals down, you get inspired by them, you make messy notes in your notebook about what you think you need to do to make them happen, you begin working towards them, and then…life shows up and you veer off track.

Yeah, going off track happens to all of us, and it will to you, too.

How quickly can you get back on track and keep going forward?

What happens to many of us (yep, I’m pointing the finger at myself, too) is that when life happens, we fail to pick up the baton and keep moving toward the finish line.

We stop.

We become distracted by a new goal that feels better than the one we had before (probably because it seems a little easier or safer.)

We also begin to reason (our thoughts are showing) with ourselves about how the original goal is not for us. Perhaps if it truly were for us, we’d have already attained it.

Ah, yes. That’s what’s truly happening in our minds.

It’s a self-defeating thought that comes from how WE value ourselves.

This is at the core of why you’re not achieving your goals.

You can see the value in your spouse, your kids, your siblings, your BFF, your co-workers, and your friends, but when you are seeking the value, you see within yourself, you cannot see it.

You find your value in the things you do – your work accolades, your accomplishments in education, how well your children are doing in school, all the things you and your spouse do together. Yes, those are honorable mentions, but where are y-o-u in that list?

Who are you being?

Your value is not a dollar sign. Your value is not tied to your accomplishments. If you never did a thing, you are infinitely valuable because you are you.

There is no habit, no goal, no award that makes you valuable.

You are already that.

Therefore, YOU are the most important project that you’ll ever work on.

There is no end. It just is.

When you fully recognize and own who you are, not the tamped down, made-to-make-others-comfortable-in-your-presence version of yourself, you will:

Decide more powerfully,

Commit to your goals with conviction, and

Execute consistently until you get it done.
